A sense of belonging in the workplace can increase job performance, reduce turnover, and drive resilient teams. But what does it mean to feel like we belong at work, and how can we help create that experience in our organizations?

Hire Immigrants Ottawa is pleased to be offering this workshop series for employers that invites participants to explore what it means to achieve and contribute to a sense of belonging in the workplace.

This three-part workshop series progressively builds participants’ knowledge and skills about inclusive practices that build a culture of belonging. Participants who complete all three workshops will receive a certificate.

Fee for each workshop Module: $70 

(Due to changes in our funding structure, HIO is now charging a small fee to cover the costs of delivering these workshops.)  

Spaces are limited and will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis.

These virtual workshops will be delivered via the Zoom platform.

Module 1: Building a Culture of Belonging

We all long to belong; but how do we build this experience at work? In this introductory module, we explore what it means to feel a sense of belonging in our workplaces, what it looks like, why it matters, and the foundational components for building it. 

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to: 

  • Define the concepts of diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging; 
  • Articulate the benefits of fostering a workplace culture of inclusion and belonging; 
  • Identify the key components for building a workplace culture of belonging.

Module 2: Uncovering Biases to Foster Belonging

The second module delves more deeply into our workplace cultures to explore how bias can undermine our efforts to foster belonging in the workplace. This interactive session reviews the concept of affinity bias, its disruptive effects and explores best practices for challenging this and other common biases in the workplace.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify common biases in the workplace;
  • Strengthen connections with people different from ourselves;
  • Apply best practices for uncovering and interrupting biases

Module 3: Fostering a Sense of Belonging

In this final module, we w practice some essential skills for fostering a workplace culture of belonging. We begin by analyzing different workplace scenarios and identifying strategies to foster belonging in teams and then explore storytelling as a simple yet powerful method to further strengthen the sense of belonging.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify best practices for fostering belonging in teams;
  • Explore storytelling as a method to foster belonging ;
  • Develop an action plan to further inclusive and belonging practices in the workplace

Cancellation Policy
 

HIO will inform registrants via email of workshop cancellations at least 48 hours ahead of the workshop date. Participants registered for a workshop canceled by HIO will receive a full refund.   


REFUND POLICY
To request a full refund, registrants must cancel up to one week (five business days) before the workshop date. No refunds will be issued to registrants who cancel within one week (five business days) of the workshop date. Registrants who do not show up for a workshop will be responsible for the full workshop ticket price.
